The California Artificial Reef Enhancement (CARE) Program is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Through public education and scientific research, CARE promotes awareness and understanding of the potential value to be derived from artificial reef ecosystems in offshore California, and further supports their preservation and enhancement when recognized as being beneficial to the marine environment.
Over the past four decades, artificial reefs have contributed to and enhanced the marine ecosystem off of the California Coast. Such reef structures have formed on the underwater support framework of most oil platforms, providing safe, productive and important habitat for a wide range of marine life. CARE works to encourage and fund additional research and public education regarding these thriving marine ecosystems.
